Slovak Finance Ministry retreated from the adjustments of coefficients, by which land, buildings, and apartment tax rates for regional cities should have increased. „In the bill on the real estate tax, only those provisions will be adjusted that will make the collection and administration of the tax easier“ said Finance Minister’s spokesman Peter Papanek. In this bill, the real estate tax rate, respectively the coefficient for tax increase will not rise, and real estate tax will thus not be changed.
The Finance Ministry originally wanted to increase the coefficient, by which tax rates of land, buildings and apartments in regional towns should have been multiplied from current 4 to 10, for the town of Kosice to 12 and for the capital of Bratislava from 4.5 to 15. From January, real estate tax in towns which are regional centers would have been 1.5-times as high as in 2001, while it should have doubled in Kosice and grown 2.3-fold in Bratislava
