American Ambassador to Slovakia Ronald Weiser met on Thursday with officials of the American Chamber of Commerce. At the meeting the U.S. diplomat said that from the business point of view Slovakia is the most attractive country in the central European region, reported the chamber. According to Ambassador Weiser, foreign business people mainly appreciate the geographic position of the country, the qualified labor force and progressive attitude of the government. On the other hand, the relatively high level of corruption and insufficient efficiency of the judicial system could discourage foreign investors.
The Ambassador underscored that political stability also influenced the rating improvement of the Slovak Republic to investment grade by the three most important rating agencies: Fitch, Moody’s and Standard & Poor. This will help Slovakia to attract new prospective investors he highlighted. Mr. Weiser mentioned PSA Peugeot Citroen’s recent decision to build a plant in Slovakia and investments by Delphi, Whirlpool, Dell Computers and U.S. Steel.
